Jane Blalock, Stephen Trendler and me at the Handa Cup
January in Florida is a golfer’s paradise. Our winter days with ample sunshine and warm temperatures bring flocks of golfers to the sunshine state. FGCM welcomes them all.
This month we are proud to announce our affiliation with the North Florida section of the PGA, now 1,500 members strong. With the prodding of Jeff Gibson, Assistant Executive Director, we have been selected to be their information source every month. On the cover we showcase the fantastic new golf clubs available from Tour Edge. My irons are Tour Edge Bazooka and I ’ve been hitting the Houdini three wood - it’s simply magic.
We also follow up on Miss Florida, Allison Kreiger, as she hits the links and learns the game to better represent Florida a true golf state. I was fortunate to attend her send off party and was truly impressed with her class and what a well-spoken young woman she is. Check out page 24. I would like to recognize three people who were very instrumental in the success we enjoyed in 2006. Dennis James, for his commitment to creative colorful writing and the true perfection of his photographic skills. He even took one for the team this year, spending thirty days in Scotland. We all enjoy his style. Stephen Trendler for getting us involved in the endless events, such as the inaugural Handa Cup, that featured some of LPGA ’s all time golfers. He lends an air of professionalism to our wacky team. He wins the Mr. Popularity on the First Coast. Last but never least, Angi Perretti, my flamboyant friend of fifteen years, for her endless optimism and heartfelt support. She has made influential connections in the Islands and was the one responsible for our intro to Miss Florida.
This year Shannon and I have added a fresh new face to our production team, Ashley Strickland. She is a lot of fun and easy on the eyes. As a bonus she is a bartender, which comes in handy during editorial meetings. What we have learned about Ashley is that she is a 23-year-old military brat, the oldest of five children, a full time student at the University of Central Florida, a bartender at Chili ’s, and now here. She just recently purchased her first house, and can now officially call Orlando "home". Was one of forty students accepted into the Broadcast Journalism major this fall at UCF. In what little free time she has left she enjoys popping in to see her family and spending time with her boyfriend of three years!
I am very excited to be the new production assistant here at FGCM! Hopefully it will help me build the skills and resources that I need to eventually pursue my dream of becoming a sports broadcaster! Live, Laugh, and Love! ~Ash
Happy New Year and see you guys at the Birdie Bash, PGA Show, GOLFEST!
