Duffer Dan at Boca Raton Resort & Club
Our journey this month took us to the famous “Pink Lady“ of Palm Beach County- the luxurious Boca Raton Resort & Club that has been operating since 1926 when architect and bon vivant Addison Mizner decided to design a new Mecca for the wealthy and called Boca Raton “ the Sun Porch of America”. The 1000 plus room Mediterranean Revival style Resort strives to be the world’s greatest resort with impeccable service, 5 distinctive settings for exquisite accommodations, 11 different superb dining options and plenty of outstanding places to play. Nestled on 356 breathtaking acres in a private village, the Resort includes a Yacht Club, an exclusive Country Club, a Beach Club with a half-mile of oceanfront beach, Croquet, Tennis and a renowned Spa. Today, the Resort remains faithful to its glamorous past, but radiates vibrant new energy and offers infinite amenities to provide each guest with the perfect getaway.
The Boca Raton Resort & Club is part of the new Waldorf Astoria Collection. If you enjoy visiting some of the great icons of hospitality with modern elegance and a fresh visionary approach to service, you need to find your way onto El Camino Real, the avenue specifically designed by Mizner to reach the Resort.
The town of Boca Raton has many fine dining options, but if you never leave the Resort you will taste the ‘Best of Boca’ right here. From the top of the 27-story Tower, Cielo by Angela Hartnett provides elegant continental cuisine while the warm surroundings of Lucca, serving timely Tuscan masterpieces overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. Recently, the innovative sushi cuisine of Morimoto opened just off the Palm Court, where breakfast and lunch is served. For light fare, you can find your way to the Gazebo at the pool, Club Room Café, Mizner’s Monkey Bar or Bar Luna. Serendipity, an upscale desert bar from New York City, will open right across from Morimoto. The Beach Club is undergoing a $120 million renovation and will open at the end of the year with more dining options.
As a guest at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, you can play two magnificent golf courses. The Resort course is adjacent to the Hotel while the Country Club course is a short drive away. Both courses are great tracks and feature water hazards, ample sized fairways and an island green at the closing hole. The Dave Pelz Scoring Game School is located at the Boca Country Club and features state-of-the-art instruction on all phases of the short game. PGA Professional Joe Demino is the Head Pro and along with his fine staff you are assured a great round of golf and top-notch service on the Joe Lee design at the Country Club. The par 72, 6714-yard track has a great variety of holes to challenge any level of player.
The Resort course is a gorgeous par 71 layout that plays 6253 yards from the back tees and features a variety of elevation changes and 12 acres of water including a signature water feature designed by Hugh Hughes. The course is dedicated to Tommy Armour and Sam Snead who served as head professionals from 1926 to 1955 and 1956 to 1969 respectively. The pro shop is located in a separate building that also houses the Old Homestead, a contemporary interpretation of the New York’s finest steak house with a menu second to none. Here you can enjoy a special dining experience or lunch overlooking the manicured rolling fairways on the Veranda Patio or a special libation at the Titanium Bar.
